Bidriware

Bidriware metal-inlay craft developed in the city of Bidar during the 14th century under the Bahmani Sultanate, drawing on Persian metalworking traditions that were gradually adapted by local artisans into a distinct regional craft still practised by a small number of families today.

Objects are cast from an alloy of zinc and copper, engraved with fine patterns, inlaid with pure silver or gold wire, and then oxidised with a local soil-and-ammonium-chloride solution that blackens the base metal so the silver inlay stands out sharply.
